Children's Classes for Ages 2-14

Thank you for your interest in Gallery Stratford education programs.  Here are answers to frequently-asked questions: All programs, unless otherwise stated,  require pre-registration and payment.  Payment may be made using online registration, by phone (with Visa, Mastercard), in person at the Gallery (credit card, cheque, debit or cash) or by e-transfer.  The Gallery cannot hold a spot in a class without payment.  Participants are responsible for knowing the schedule of their registered class.  Access to the Gallery and the classroom will be provided 10 minutes prior to the start of each session. Class sizes are set to ensure an optimal experience for each participant.  For sold out programs, you may wish to contact the Education Curator to be added to a waiting list, or to the Gallery email list for information about future classes.

Children's Classes

  • Ages 5-10

    Join Art Educator Melissa Quinn for a full day of fun art projects. Be prepared to get creative exploring painting, drawing and mixed media. All materials will be supplied. Wear something that can get "arty" and be sure to bring outdoor clothes, as well as lunch and snacks.

    This popular full-day program has a maximum capacity of 16 artists - to confirm a spot, please submit a completed Registration Form with a method of payment.  Cancellations within 7 days of the program will be charged a 20% administration fee.  

    Please note: all children's programs are nut-free

  • Ages 4-8

    Join us to celebrate art and literature. Read and explore the illustrations of a new book each week. Then create your own artwork inspired by these books. Various media will be explored throughout this four week course taught by Educator, Ann Marie Stasiuk.

    Arts Alive, Ages 4-14

    • The Arts Alive program takes place at Avon Public School, 31 Huntingdon St., Stratford
    • Original content and art activities led by adult Art Educators and Artists
    • Supervised time outdoors during lunch breaks, plus two health/play breaks
    • Small classes – a maximum of 16 students per program
    • A safe, creative & rewarding atmosphere for your child with a focus on art skills, encouragement and individual creativity
    • Classes run HALF DAYS: 9am to 12pm & 1pm to 4pm, or FULL DAYS: 9am to 4pm  *we are not currently able to offer before and aftercare
    • Once again the Vanessa Howarth Arts Alive Summer Art Camp Bursary is available for a deserving young artist requiring financial assistance.  Nominations can be made by a Teacher or Mentor using the Application found here and which can be picked up at the Gallery.  All submissions must be received by Wednesday, May 1st, 2019

    6-12 Green Art: Reuse & Upcycle! Explore different approaches to making art, while thinking of the ways that we impact our environment. By reusing and repurposing objects and materials, you will create your own original artworks that will get you thinking about sustainability and our environment.  Join Art Educator Sonia Wing as she shares her love of green art making!

     

    6-12 Sculpture Workshop:  Join Art Educator Avery Boersen to explore how to turn 2D ideas into 3D creations.  Using a variety of mediums, young artists will explore various forms of sculpture. Learn new techniques and have fun with clay, tape, wire, paper, and found objects, in both additive and subtractive projects.

    6-12 Mini-Masters:  Join Art Educator Avery Boersen to explore works and artists from the past.  Referencing a variety of different movements and time periods, including Canadian and Indigenous artists, you will be ready to create your own works in a variety of mediums inspired by those that came before! 

    6-12 On the Water:  Join our Art Educator Ann Marie Stasiuk in a dynamic program exploring life on the water!  Boats and islands, beaches and shells, creatures and characters, treasure hunters and pirates will all inspire projects using a variety of mediums. Create maps of imaginary islands, imagine yourself as an artist out at sea – together we’ll catch something big!

    6-12 Art & Ideas:  Linking the “what” with the “why” – we will explore art making with a purpose in mind.  Do you want to make art with a positive message?  Do you think murals and cooperative art sounds like fun? Together we will explore a variety of projects and mediums to create art that makes a difference.   Join Art Educator Avery Boersen in answering the question - What matters to you? 

     

    6-12 Painting Studio:  Join Art Educator Hayley Flanagan to explore the exciting and almost limitless world of painting!  Try your hand at watercolour, acrylics, inks (and even some surprise mediums).  Explore various painting techniques working on a variety of surfaces.  Paint can be used to create both 2D and 3D effects as you will discover in this fun and messy program!

    6-12 Tomorrowland:  Join Art Educator Cree Toner looking forward to the world of tomorrow!  What will the world look like? Where will we live?  Will we drive to school or fly?  Have fun and get creative thinking about futuristic visions in both two and three dimensions in this mixed media program.  What will these artists of tomorrow imagine?  We can’t wait to see!

    6-12 Atlantis: Underwater World:  Join Art Educator Cree Toner diving under the waves to a creative world of art-making inspired by the Lost City of Atlantis.  Giant fish, mermaids and mermen, octopus, sharks and crabs – who do you imagine lives in the lost city of Atlantis?   Explore painting, sculpture, mixed media and drawing in this fun program that is intended to complement our other half day offering!  

    10-14 Printmaking & Poster Design: Join Art Educator Cree Toner and explore a variety of printmaking techniques to create a portfolio of images.  Work with natural textures, try mono-printing, and carve into lino blocks to create both individual and layered works.  Explore the art of the poster and get to know how words and the elements of design work together to get a message across.  Get ready to make art with an impact!

    10-14 Film Camp: In this hands-on film production program run by Art Educator Dan Wettlaufer we will explore different cinematic genres creating our own film sequence inspired by various styles, directors and ideas. Learn how to storyboard and shoot from collaborated concepts. Try your hand at writing, directing, production design, cinematography, sound, lighting and even acting!    *Full days only

    10-14 Art & Yoga: We are pleased to welcome back Art Educator and Yoga instructor Joan Chapple.  Join her on a fun and exploratory journey of creativity, connection and yoga in this popular program.  Enjoy daily art, yoga, and mindfulness interwoven through a variety of projects and mediums.  Bring your yoga mat along for the week, or we can lend you one of ours!   No yoga experience necessary. *Full days only

    10-14 Adventure in Drawing: Learn to draw or improve your drawing skills in a fun yet educational atmosphere. Explore a variety of skills from representational drawing to cartooning with activities that include drawing what is seen in the class and en plein air (outside).  Using a variety of surfaces and drawing materials (such as graphite, coloured pencils, ink, pastel, charcoal and tape) Stratford Artist Denise Nonomura presents an adventure in drawing!   *Full days only

     

    Art & Tennis, Ages 6-12

    • A popular joint program between Gallery Stratford and the Stratford Tennis Club that combines the best of both worlds
    • Full day programs excepting July 1st, which is a half day of tennis only.
    • Daily drop off is at the Stratford Tennis Club at 9 am.  After lunch students get picked up, have some time to be outside and then return for the afternoon at Gallery Stratford.  There is an additional health/play break in the afternoon.
    • Pickup is at 4 pm at Gallery Stratford.  
    • *Please note: Week 1 - July 1st ½ day only, pick up at the Stratford Tennis Club

    Art & Golf, Ages 8-14

    • A popular joint program between Gallery Stratford and the Stratford Country Club. 
    • Full Day program:  $280 (Gallery Member) or $299 (Non-Member)
    • Daily drop off is at the Stratford Country Club at 9 am.  After lunch students get picked up, have some time to be outside and then return for the afternoon at Gallery Stratford.  There is an additional health/play break in the afternoon. Pickup is at 4 pm at Gallery Stratford. 
    • A delicious catered lunch is included in the price of this program and prepared by the chefs at the SCC

    Summer Studio, Mornings - Ages 5-10 

    • Daily drop off is at Gallery Stratford between 8:50-9:00 am.  Participants should pack snacks and water bottle, as well as appropriate seasonal clothing, hats and sunscreen as needed.  We will go outside for a health/play break in the morning.
    • Pickup is at 12 pm at Gallery Stratford.  Please note: We are not currently able to offer before or aftercare.
