Education Officer

Gallery Stratford is looking for an Education Officer to oversee the planning, design and implementation of a wide-range of education programs.  Core programming areas include classes for all age groups and skill levels, family programs, exhibition animation and school programs. The Officer is also responsible for creating new initiatives in accordance with the Gallery’s mandate and vision.

Schedule: 22 hours a week, with the possibility of additional hours
Reports to: Executive Director

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the Education department and create programs in line with the Gallery’s mandate and strategic goals
  2. Manage the development, implementation and evaluation of all education projects, including school-based programs for students grades K-12 and teachers, interpretive programs to complement current exhibitions,  public workshops for all ages; and March Break, summer and after-school programs
  3. Manage the training and scheduling of docents, artists/educators, and volunteers
  4. Develop and adhere to the annual education budget
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations, the School Boards, and museum/gallery educators
  6. Work with staff to produce written descriptive content and print material to promote programs
  7. Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and sponsorship requests for education projects

Skills & Requirements

  1. College or University Degree in arts, education or related fields
  2. Knowledge of public art galleries/museum field and practice
  3. Understanding of art history and contemporary art
  4. Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum and familiarity with the school system
  5. Teaching experience and the ability to work with a wide range of age groups and audiences
  6. Demonstrated experience in visual arts-related program design
  7. Excellent oral and writing skills, and attention to detail
  8. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, volunteers and public
  9. Administrative experience and excellent computer skills
