Taking Place

Taking Place

Selections from the Permanent Collection

December 2, 2017 - January 14, 2018

Opening Reception: Friday December 1, 7-9PM

Being conscious of place is something that has become increasingly important in today’s society. There is so much movement, both physically and mentally, whether commuting to a different city to work or entering into the life of someone else via television series. It is, at times, overwhelming. To stop and really think about where you are in a certain moment, to feel as though you’ve finally “arrived” somewhere without thinking about the next destination, is as rarely done as it is necessary. The pieces in this show have been chosen from the Permanent Collection with special attention paid to how they invite the viewer to occupy space. The exhibition contains work by: Carl Beam, Jane Buyers, Stephen Cruise, Joan Marie Dean, Robert Downing, Miljenko Horvat, John Ivor Smith, Mark Tobey, and Mia Westerlund.
