Max Streicher

Max Streicher: BREATH

May 6 - June 30, 2012

My work with the inflatable  medium is about moving the viewer from a playful headspace toward a physical  connection to his or her most vital forces.

Gallery Stratford is pleased  to present two installations by the respected Toronto artist who has been  creating complex inflatable figures and forms for the last 20 years.  In HORSES, Max Streicher references equestrian  monuments and the art of Surrealists such as Magritte, de Chirico and Dali. The  work is inspired by classical sculpture and the placement of unexpected objects  in a public space. For the LODGE installation, Streicher creates a toppled  forest which can also be experienced as functional architecture.   The  use of vinyl from billboards creates a colourful collage of fragmented  advertising which the viewer can move within.   The exhibition also includes photograms and photographs of the artist’s  installations from around the world.
