Plant (iPod)

July 20 – September 30, 2018

Opening Reception: Friday, July 20, 7-9pm

Artist Talk: Thursday, September 20th, 7pm

Artist, curator and Assistant Professor, Jane Tingley, explores the relationship between humans and technology. She considers how the human body can have meaningful interactions with technological environments and how the specific arrangement of certain objects can further impact its viewers. Tingley creates environments out of new and old technologies to analyze sensory worlds based on the viewers’ experience.

Jane Tingley’s project, The Plant (iPod) Installation, examines the “poetics involved in creating new relationships between human and plant life”. This installation is made of nine various prosthetic plants that have sensors and speakers within them giving off a range of breathing sounds. Depending on your proximity and location to each plant, this breathing becomes quiet storytelling of old folks tales and poems of nature.

Jane Tingley thanks Canada Council for the Arts for their generous support.
