Gerard Brender à Brandis

A Gathering of Flowers from Shakespeare

July 20 – September 30, 2018

Opening Reception: Friday, July 20, 7-9pm

Artist Talk: Tuesday, September 11th at 10:45 AM

Gerard Bender à Brandis, born in Holland but now settled in Stratford, Ontario, first found his interest for the arts in third grade. He brings form and content together through his works and by combining his talents in wood engraving, paper-making, typesetting, printing, bookbinding and dyeing, he creates his own hand-made books. With a solo exhibition almost every year since 1965, Brender à Brandis has been engraving small and immaculately detailed wooden blocks for more than fifty years. He is known for his restoration of the “forgotten wonderments of the world around us”, ranging from the exact detail of a single flower to an abandoned barn. This exhibition of his work features original wood engravings from his book ‘A Gathering of Flowers from Shakespeare’.
